How You Touch Other People’s Lives, That’s What Matters

A line from Batman Begins struck me yesterday:

“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me..” (Batman quoting Rachel Dawes)

What we do that defines us. What we do to other people around us.

But sadly, they both lost their lives to illness they had fought for quite sometimes.

On the day they died, timeline FB gue tiba-tiba dipenuhi oleh status orang-orang yang nggak gue kenal, tagging almarhum, expressing their condolences. Their friends come from many societies, bukti bahwa pergaulan almarhum sangatlah luas, tidak mengenal batas usia, jenis kelamin, maupun status sosial dan ekonomi.

Having learned that my cousins were socially active in many communities, I was astounded with the eulogies their friends made for them. Sincere eulogies. Some of them even capturing their last conversation with Almarhum, showing that even in their illness, almarhum still cared for their friends. Kepentingan diri sendiri menjadi nomor sekian.

My cousins must have done great jobs and wonderful things for their communities, let alone their personalities which made them loved and respected by their friends. They have touched other people’s lives in their own way, a way which I believe was full of love,  compassion, kindness and devotion. They filled their lives with good things and useful ones, not only for their dunya but also for their akhirat. And in the end, what goes around will always come around. How you touch other people’s lives, that’s what really matters.

You’re surely missed by so many people, guys !
